I grew up in Jacksonville, Florida. Summers in Massachusetts (after summer
camp) and a lot of winter vacations there, too. There was Scouts, MYF, swimming, sailing, basketball, Thespians to keep me
busy. I graduated from Terry Parker High School in 1973, and attended Jacksonville University through the NROTC program
there. More basketball, theatre and swimming, plus working at the "Rat". Got my Bachelors degree by the skin of my teeth,
and was commissioned as an Ensign in the Navy in 1977. For ten years I served on a variety of assignments. Although, most
of this time was assigned to units located at Norfolk Naval Station, I also spent some time stationed in New York and Newport,
RI. The USS Canisteo, USS America, and USS Arkansas are all scrap now, and the Commander Service Group Two staff no longer existes. Boy, does that make you feel old. While in the Navy, I married Karyn and we had three children (Glenn, Andrew and Eryn). Afterwards, I spent three years working as a systems analyst at the Naval War College in Newport, RI. While living in Rhode
Island, I attended the University of Rhode Island and in 1989 completed my Masters degree in Marine Affairs. Then
we went south again and I began my tenure at U.S. Coast Guard Headquarters, Office of Marine Safety in Washington,
DC. Several years ago we again returned to Rhode Island. Currently I work at a Marine Science Research labaoratory for the
U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, in Narragansett.
